There was a time in my SLife when all I did was live and breathe SL fashion and modeling. It was always about which awards and contests to win next, what agencies to get in, and which designers to work for, etc… Though I am extremely shy and reserved, I think I did pretty well and I have achieved all that I wanted to do. During my modeling journey, I had lost plenty of friends, made a few enemies and been through plenty of Ups & Downs but through it all, I was true to myself, I stood up for what I believed in and I did it my way without stepping on others back.

One day I woke up…

I realized that I had put so much importance and revolved my life on something that most likely won’t matter 10 years from now. Don’t get me wrong. I absolutely love fashion and I love being able to express my fashion and artistic style in Second Life, but I think the obsession and constant need for attention and obtaining these “awards/agencies” are just too much and not healthy. It makes me sad how people act in SL. Some “important” people act like “GODS” and think they can look down and control others just because they gained some success in a Virtual World.  Some resort to ass kissing, back stabbing, lying, cheating, cyber bullying and other childish behavior to get some attention and notoriety. I ask you…Is it worth it? Does it make you feel great and superior to treat other people badly? You might ask….Who the hell am I to judge? I will be the first to tell you that I am NOBODY. I am just another human being behind an avatar who has feelings and gets lonely sometimes, just like you and everyone else. And I am not judging, I’m just voicing my opinion through my experiences. I deeply believe in Karma and I will treat people as how they treat others no matter how “delusional” they might be about their SL importance.

Now enough of the negativity…. lol. I’m not completely emo, I promise. The best part of the SL Fashion World for me is the many wonderful friends I’ve met. There are truly many beautiful and kind people out there and I have the honor to call them my friends and mentors. They have given me a lot of opportunities to grow, supported me through everything and loved me for who I am. You all know who you are and I sincerely Thank you for being beautiful inside and out. My awesome hubby, Editorial Clarity and I have slowly moved away from SL Fashion these past few months though we both know fashion is part of us. We will continue to produce The Fashion Teller books as a means to express our fashion and artistic sides, and I will probably model from time to time I’m sure. I’ve tried to retire completely so many times but a little tiny voice is always calling me back especially when I am inspired. LOL. So….I guess I am semi-retied. ;p

FASHION: Okay, I’m in an EMO mood and what better way to express it than to dress up in an ultra chic black outfit from one of my favorite stores: Tableu Vivant. They recently released a lot of cool new mesh items and I’m hooked. I love the simplistic style, yet it is unique and breathtaking the way they play with the shape and textures of their designs. For example: This Cossak trousers are just amazing the way it balloons at the top and tapers it down to the legs; the fabric just flows. Paired the look with a corset from Cheerno, gloves from Vero Modero and boots from Hoorenbeek. Make up by Nuuno adds a nice finishing touch to my EMO ensemble. Afterall If you are gonna be sad, LOOK FABULOUS!!!

RicoRacer Flux’s “The Journey”: Today is my interview for Mister Virtual World and I feel sick. =( OMG, my allergies are acting up. I took Benadryl and it just made me so groggy and out of it. Anyway, I am so nervous about the Live Interview part because I consider it my weakest point. I can style superbly and model perfectly but I have trouble answering tough questions on demand in front of a live audience. Unfortunately, there’s nothing I can do to prepare for it. I absolutely have no idea what questions they are going to ask. I just have to be myself and answer the questions the best I can sincerely. I am very excited though to wear a special design made for me from Donna Flora for this interview. It is a tan business suit that is simply amazing. Wish me luck! The good news is that after this interview, the fun part starts. =) I cannot wait to see my formal wear and swimwear and style them. I am getting nervous because the competition is fast approaching and I hope I don’t have to compete naked ‘cuz my outfits are not done. LOL. But I have complete faith in the designers to deliver. They are the best.

FASHION: This mix and match outfit is put together with finesse to create a stunning ensemble reminiscent of Alexander Mcqueen Style. The highly detailed Tuxedo Jacket is from Lapointe & Bastchilde that comes with a collar, tie and cuff prims. The grooved vertical edges make a man look lean and sophisticated.
I paired this formal jacket with a fantastic Scottish kilt from Mushashi-do. The colors of the kilt are vibrant and it really flows when you move. It comes with a belt and sporran (pouch) that is highly detailed with rich textures if you look closely. The awesome footwear is from REDGRAVE. It is very unique and compliments the outfit well. A top hat and an umbrella from Cheerno completes the look that speaks volumes. A great combination of Masculinity and Elegance.

RicoRacer Flux “The Journey”: Second Life contests and castings. I’ve had my fair share of winning and losing SL contests and castings. It makes me sad that people take losing so seriously to the point of giving up Second Life. When it comes to competitions, I always follow this very wise saying…” Don’t take your success to your head nor your failures to your heart.” Win or Lose, Life goes on and I believe the experience will only make you stronger and better. No one can win all the competitions out there. You may have the perfect ‘everything’ but it might not be what they are looking for at that moment.

Let me tell you something. I once auditioned for a Top SL agency who was hiring models.  As far as I’m concerned, I had the perfect look with fantastic styling and fabulous poses picked out. I was so SURE that they would hire me but they didn’t. I was not what they are looking for at that moment. Guess What? Two weeks later, I got a message from that agency’s CEO that they would love to hire me and add me to their model roster if I am still interested. Anyway, the point is no matter how perfect you are, it might not be the right fit at that time. Contests are subjective and each judge’s view of what they are looking varies. So, if you don’t get it the first time, TRY again. Don’t be too hard on yourself. The sun will always shine. Wouldn’t the victory be much sweeter knowing how hard you worked at it? So, Get up, dust off and move on. The journey is not about the destination but the experiences along the way. Most important is to be happy of who you are and be content with what you have. Enjoy life. =)

FASHION: The outfit is from Menlosophy’s Black and White, which consisted of Black pants with prim bottoms/resizer, a nice chocolate colored shirt with built in White tie, and of course, the Black and White Jacket with prim sleeves and collar, both Jacket and collar included resizer. Shoes were Kalnins Gallop which had 8 colors of which I chose a nice light grey tone to match the outfit. Hair was .::MADesigns Hair::. *RicoRacer Flux “The Journey”: I am on a modeling break at this time to refresh and energize. The past few months have been crazy with lots of fashion shows, editorials and contests. RicoRacer Flux “The Journey”: (From now on, I will add this little section in all my personal posts called: “RicoRacer Flux: The Journey”. People have frequently told me that they love the blog but there doesn’t seem to be any information about me as a blogger and model like I’m some kind of mystery. LOL. I honestly don’t like to talk about myself and believe it or not, I’m extremely shy. But I am deeply passionate about modeling and blogging. I figured this would help me open up and make the blog more personal. I will backtrack to my old posts as well and add my little thoughts and feelings about living my Second Life as a model, blogger, mentor, instructor and whatever roles I may find myself into. It will be all put in a special tab on the right side of the screen called: RicoRacer Flux: The Journey. Consider this section “MY CONFESSION”.  ;p)

It has been almost a month since I discovered that I am a Finalist for Mister Virtual World. I’m still pinching myself to see if I’m dreaming. I look back last year where I was in the audience watching the men compete for MVW 2009. I knew then that this is something I want to do and made a vow that I will be on that stage as a finalist for MVW 2010.  I guess this is part of the reason why I became a model in Second Life. I’ve always been fascinated by beauty pageants in real life for the spirit of the competition. I love styling outfits together and I can’t wait to show my “National Costume” on stage. BTW, I know I represent MR. Egypt but I actually reside in the USA. I chose Egypt because of the rich culture and tradition that is represents. =)

Okay back to the picture. Here, I portray my own version of Richard Gere’s character in American Gigolo. A friend called me crazy that I might be ruining my “image” by portraying a male hooker. LOL. It’s fun to play a man for hire. LMAO. ;p Honestly, I am a pretty open minded person and I don’t mind “Adult Content” or Avatar Nudity as long as it is artistic and it has a point. Talyia Tarber did an amazing job especially with my request to make me a male Hoe. She listens to my ideas well and make it alive with her amazing talent. I love those 10 minutes backstage before a show starts. I love the adrenaline and the excitement and of course I love Fashion.
I graduated in the first group at Miss Virtual World Academy, which makes me a bit proud.

INFO: I am the model, artist, set creator, pose designer for all my pics. Each image takes on average between 3-5 hours to do and what I capture is 99.9% what you see with the exception of colour enhancement and minor retouching. With nearly 600 poses in DeePosed store, you will appreciate the amount of time put into all my image creation. I create all lighting and shadowing in world using a standard viewer. I try and build in as much realism as I can i.e. with gravity effects for hair or creating individual shadow elements for objects in view. It’s a constant learning curve and always maintains my interest.

I’ve always liked emotive, evocative and sensual imagery in the human form and am always intrigued as to how far I can reflect this in what I do in second life. I hope that people can see that in my pics.

FASHION: Nemi Gown by Tres Beau. When working with formal wear or costume couture, I prefer to go high drama. To me, this particular type of garment and resulting photo is a model’s chance to go for a look that pushes past the norm and into that goddess zone. You don’t want to just catch an eye, you want a WOW. Ultimately, Kimmera’s Nemi gown seemed to best fit that bill. Originally created for Miss Nemi McCoy for the Miss Virtual World 2010 Pageant, this gown is a hands-down show stopper. I love the color and texture. The level of detail on the garment is amazing. You not only have a texture that includes jeweled draping hanging from the bodice, Kimmera has included the jewels to match down to the bindi. The consistency of the colors in this garment push it past your usual piece and into its own zone.

As for styling this particular garment, I chose to attempt to be true to the culture behind it and really tried to embrace everything about it. The skin is an Indian skin from Unique with make-up colors that compliment the gown. For hair, I chose a swept back look with a high, full pony. Something that I felt was reminiscent of the images that come to mind when you think of the classical goddess look. The Mandala bangles seemed the perfect compliment to the overall look and feel of what this woman would wear. As for the henna tattoos…well, this is SL and sometimes that means it is a chance for us to have something in our pixellated universe that we maybe haven’t had a chance to have in our real lives. I’ve wanted to have my hands and feet painted with henna tattoos for the longest time now. Would I really pass up an opportunity to use henna tattoos here? Heck no!
