Modavia Fashion Week 2011 – Schedule of events
Modavia Fashion Week (September 8-15, 2011) opens at 11am SLT on September 8th with a show featuring the highlights of the week ahead for invited press and bloggers. Fifty of the best couture designers in SL will present their new autumn collections over the next 8 days, kicking off with the LaGyo/LG Concept partnership and culminating in a showcase of emerging talent and the much-awaited preview of new fall designs from Paper Couture on September 15 at 5pm SLT. All shows will take place on the MODAVIA sims which will also host an exclusive on-site boutique selling all the FW looks seen on the runway.
Landing points for this event as well as boutique listings will be advertised on the Modavia website and blog pages. Thanks to our sponsors at KMADD Enterprises, Euphoria and Secondnights for their support.
Edi and I would like to give a very sincere THANK YOU to everyone who made it to the event as well as all the warm wishes we have both received over the past week. Hello Everyone,
We hoped you made it to our Wedding Wonderland Event. Being a part of the fashion world, Edi and I decided to have a little fashion story show as part of our wedding ceremony in honor of our friends and family. This is the first time we’ve ever done an event this huge. Zandy Oh, the set maker did a wonderful job in creating a truly fantastic stage set where you really feel like you have just stepped into a magical kingdom. As soon as you arrive, you are faced with a decision.
DO YOU DARE FOLLOW THE WHITE RABBIT INTO THE HOLE? If you are brave enough, come through the rabbit hole.
Oh, You brave soul. Welcome to Wonderland.
After a long fall through the rabbit hole, you arrived into a strange room surrounded by trees with a checkerboard floor that is never-ending. You see a giant table with a potion….to drink or not? Don’t ponder too long because here comes Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum here to meet the strange creature that just arrived in Wonderland.
Ignore the Tweedle Boys or they will bore you to tears. Pass through the giant door quickly and make your way into the card bridge filled with broken clocks. Don’t ever look back or it will boggle your mind. Curious? I dare you to look back as you pass the card bridge. You will see an impossibility.
Step through the forest entrance and be part of this magical kingdom and event as the tree nymph, MeiMei Shiu greets you at the door. Don’t dilly dally, the show is about to start.
The guests of honor are arriving at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. LovelyMiwako Menna, the teapot lady is here to serve with glee. TIME FOR TEA? TIME FOR TEA? The teapot lady is here for you and me.

A walk-off is when models compete on the runway using style, poses and walking to best show their individualism and attitude.
~*~*~«´·.¸¸ HOW DO I ENTER? ¸¸.·`»~*~*~
Any model, male or female, with at least 90 days experience in SL modeling may enter.
Entry Deadline: Sept. 11
Audition days: 6 p.m on Sept. 14 or 9 a.m. on Sept. 15
I am Fierce Fall Walk-Off: 12 p.m. on Sept. 25
1. Fill out the attached NC and return it to Anastacia Markova.
2. Rename the NC: I Am Fierce Entry – (Your Name)
3. Attach (2) full-perm photographs (1 headshot and 1 full body)
The judges, which include several different fashion industry professionals from around the grid, will look over the entries and choose a collective list of models to come audition.
From that audition the 12 male and 12 female contestants will be chosen for the first quarter of the walk-off. The top 3 males and top 3 females from each quarter will battle it out in the finals to see who is chosen the most *FIERCE*.

Scoring is broken down into three parts: avatar, styling and performance.
1. Avatar – 25 percent
A fierce walk must be backed up with an amazing avatar, in modeling our *look*
is our branding.
2. Styling – 25 percent
What you wear and how you wear it sets the tone for a fierce runway performance.
3. Performance – 50 percent
You will be using your own poses and your own creative choreography that best
expresses yourself. Prove to us that you are fierce.

Please welcome our next CSLTM Designer Spotlight: Boquet Babii of the fantastic label, Vero Modero. I’ve met this lovely designer and have been impressed by her high quality designs of which I had the honor of modeling on the runway during Miami Fashion Week and on magazine print ads. Her designs speak volumes about simple elegance and highly detailed comfortable fashions.
Q: Please tell us about yourself and what you consider your defining characteristics as a designer that makes you unique and stand out from the rest. Can u tell us about your brand and what the customers can expect?
BB: I’m a graphic designer in real life and I think there is a lot of opportunity in expressing one’s fashion visions in Second Life.
Clothes for me are a way of communicating with my surrounding. My designs are casual, practical and comfortable with some urban sophistication. The personality of my designs constantly grows with my style. High-value, handmade and unique textures as well as unconventional cuts compound subtle feminity with simplicity, that is the description of a typical VERO MODERO creation.
Q: What is your view of SL Fashion and how did you venture into the SL Fashion industry?
BB: The idea of designing in Second Life® attracted me. Well I love fashion and I love to shop! I always get excited in expressing my vision of fashion and seeing people wearing my creations. Coming in SL to work on my fashion designs brings me a feeling of joy. I also hope to contribute through my designs in making this virtual world better. I love the freedom of SL which allows me to express myself in my designs.
I always had a strong desire to look a certain way and dress a certain way and stand out somehow. I am extremely shy type of person and clothing was something that drew attention to me and made people talk to me so I wouldn’t have to start conversations.
Q: What are some of your accomplishments within the fashion industry and describe what would be one of the most defining moments of your career as a designer? What do you think are keys to your success?
BB: I remember one of my customer asked me, “how does it feel to be successful?” And I stopped for a minute and said exactly what my thought was, “I never considered myself successful.” I am so much into the “game” with my eye on the ball, I don’t think about “oh I am successful”. With that little thought I just shared, people equate success with money, and it’s not right. Success is taking an idea and bringing it to the marketplace and have people use their lindens to buy it.
Q: You have certainly established yourself well within the fashion industry. Please tell us what you believe are the essential elements to being a successful designer. Do you have any advice for aspiring designers?
BB: Start making your own clothes! You have to start learning on your own, that’s how you’re going to develop something that’s all yours and unlike anyone else’s. If you want to have your own clothing line the best thing to do is start wearing your clothes and having your friends wear your clothes. At the beginning, you have to promote yourself because most likely no one else is going to do it.
Q: What motivates you to be a designer? Who inspires you the most and what is your inspiration? What trend in fashion attracts you the most and drives your designs?
BB: Inspiration always comes from the things that move you, something that blossoms and evokes a different feeling which you never felt before. Anything can move me from a particular design, a colour, song, movie or a situation. My inspiration comes from everyday life. Usually I am inspired by shapes and colours, a certain colour can evoke many different levels of feelings. It carries many emotions, from being a symbol of evil, menace and sorrow to representation of power and sophistication.
Q: What are your plans for the future? Any new designs or projects we can look forward to?
BB: I am working on my Fall 2011 Collection but you have to wait for it. The collection is all about power and sophistication.

Starwalkers discontinues fashion calendar; blogger policy open forum in near future
—————————————–As of Aug. 21, 2011, Starwalkers will be discontinuing its fashion calendar services. In truth, it was a very popular venture — at first — but the last few months businesses haven’t shown enough interest in the service for me to continue its upkeep.
Several of the entries the past few weeks have been me sorting through the notices and jotting things down, which is when it becomes too time consuming. I’m a firm believer that businesses should have a large hand in their own marketing and PR, and as a free service, the calendar isn’t seeing the amount of return that I can justify giving my time toward it at this point.
You can still submit press releases, event images and new release images to me for posting on Confessions of an SL Top Model — https://csltm.wordpress.com. I will request our bloggers to link over to https://csltm.wordpress.com/starwalkers/ instead of our fashion calendar pending the blogger policy open forum….
NOW ON TO THE BLOGGER POLICY OPEN FORUM…………
There will be a STARWALKERS OPEN FORUM on BLOGGING POLICY at MODEL’S WORKSHOP in the month of September. The exact date will be announced by Sept. 1.
Bloggers are an asset in the SL fashion industry. However, the number of posts by Starwalkers bloggers — even at one a day — is beginning to drown out other types of postings from agencies, designers and media. A few people have told me they turn off notices because of this, and that becomes a problem because it defeats the purpose of the group.
However, before I make any decisions, I want to hear from our posters, our bloggers and our community as a whole on how they would like to see this handled or any suggestions they might have to contribute on how to better manage the blogging forum… So do consider coming out to the open forum.

Why turn Boulevard Agency into BLVD? There are many reasons for this, but the most important one is that back in 2007, when we were all starting the fashion revolution and the art of modeling, we hired what was best according to what was available. Same in 2008 and 2009 … but things have changed, and a new era must begin.
It is no longer enough to walk a perfect runway, it is no longer enough to have great criteria with poses and it certainly isn´t enough to know how to edit prims and hair perfectly. The era of the styling artist is here, and will be more demanding than ever!
A styling artist will always be senior to technical perfection, because they inspire others and work on a higher level of aesthetics than the mere “hanger” model.
Are you a styling artist who can really sell clothes for the designers you model for? If so, we want to hear from you!
● Modeling technical perfection is a must. (Editing prims, AO´s, pose usage, etc)
● Inspiring styling ability is a must.
● Poses that flow one to the other coherently and that showcase the outfit in the best possible way is a must.
● Walking a perfectly straight line back and forth is a must.
● Able to communicate in English.
STILL EXCITED AFTER ALL THIS?
Ok then – style 3 outfits to the best of your ability. You may use Mix and match or an off the rack dress, but I will be looking at how it all flows together and how you present it.
The audition will be fast, since it will be “sudden death” type of situation. Only those who pass the 1st styling, will continue to change into the second prepared outfit. Only those who pass the 2nd styling will go on to the 3rd, and only those who pass the third styling will be invited to a second audition to prove your walking and pose skills.

Inspired by the known events and discount shops that became “fever” in all Second Life, The Tropicalia Bazaar hits the market, aimed to offer high quality products and exclusive designs at affordable prices. TTB as it can be called, is composed of a select group of designers with some characteristics in common. The project was idealized by Vick Spitteler and Stu Reyes, Second Life residents since 2007.
In first edition, 12 designers were joined: Art Body Store, Reale, Everglow, Giereh, Nikita Fride, George, Al’Ol Architecture, Censored, Yulicie, Loordes of London, PurpleMoon and Kal Rau. The items will be avaiable until august 30th (prices 25L – 75L).
