Opium Fashion Agency is a thriving, diverse and extremely active model agency in Second Life spawning approximately 3-4 shows per month. One of the most unique facets of OFA is that many of its models specialize in skills which coincide with modeling, be it building, photography, scripting amongst other things. OFA is also profoundly known for it’s blog which provides its models with the opportunity to participate in fashion blogging and the like. It is an extremely driven agency which is demonstrated by their enormous success.
We interviewed Anastacia Markova in her capacity as in the agency’s CEO and here is what she had to say.
Q: There are contests within the SL modelling industry which are gender specific, namely Miss Virtual World, Mr Virtual World, House of Beningborough amongst others.
What are your perceptions on gender specific contests within the modelling industry?
AM: I think they are wonderful and very needed. It helps break up the categories and allows us as models to show that both sexes play a vital role in the Modeling field.
Q: Is it important that a model carry the same gender in SL as they do in RL? Does this affect the industry in general?
AM: Not at all. SL is a virtual world and the sky is the limit. What you portray is what you are here. I don’t think what sex you play in SL has bearance on the industry here.
Q: What attributes must a model possess in order to gain admission into your agency?
AM:Loyalty, Knowledge, Desire to Learn and Style.
Q:Is a potential candidate for your agency required to undertake training specifically with your model academy?
AM: No. But we do expect them to wish to continue to learn and train if not with us and we offer them continuing training within the agency.
Q: There is a general perception amongst models that some agencies only hire those who have established a reputable name for themselves, whether it be with a top-tier agency or otherwise. Is this important to you? Model training aside, are you willing to take a chance on a model who is new to the industry?
AM: Some agencies do only hire top name models. Opium However is a wonderful mix of established, on the rise and new models. We have always prided oursleves in taking on new models that wish to learn and grow. By offering in agency training our seasoned models take the new under their wings and help them. We are a true family setting type agency. We do not compete with each other, we support and we celebrate when one of our models wins titles and accolades. We are very proud of each and every one of them.
