FASHION & MUSIC: “I Want Love” by Elton John

MUSIC: I Want Love
ARTIST: Elton John
MODEL:RicoRacer Flux
SHIRT: AOHARU_BT DrapeNeck BlackT-Shirt
PANTS: Dream Box Cord Black Pants G4

I want love, but it’s impossible.
A man like me, so irresponsible.
A man like me is dead in places…
Other men feel liberated.

I can’t love, shot full of holes.
Don’t feel nothing, I just feel cold.
Don’t feel nothing, just old scars…
Toughening up around my heart.

But I want love, just a different kind.
I want love, won’t break me down.
Won’t brick me up, won’t fence me in.
I want a love, that don’t mean a thing…
That’s the love I want, I want love.

I want love on my own terms…
After everything I’ve ever learned.
Me, I carry too much baggage…
Oh man I’ve seen so much traffic.

[repeat chorus]
So bring it on, I’ve been bruised.
Don’t give me love that’s clean and smooth.
I’m ready for the rougher stuff…
No sweet romance, I’ve had enough.
A man like me is dead in places
Other men feel liberated…

When you were here before,
Couldn’t look you in the eye
You’re just like an angel,
Your skin makes me cry

You float like a feather
In a beautiful world
I wish I was special
You’re so fuckin special

But I’m a creep,
I’m a weirdo
What the hell am I doin’ here?
I don’t belong here

I don’t care if it hurts,
I wanna have control
I want a perfect body
I want a perfect soul

I want you to notice
when I’m not around
You’re so very special
I wish I was special

But I’m a creep
I’m a weirdo
What the hell am I doin’ here?
I don’t belong here, ohhhh, ohhhh

She’s running out again
She’s running out
She run run run run…
run… run…

Whatever makes you happy
Whatever you want
You’re so very special
I wish I was special

But I’m a creep,
I’m a weirdo
What the hell am I doin’ here?
I don’t belong here

I don’t belong here…

Let’s get to know Kay Fairey and She might share some tips and insights into the SL Modeling World.

Q: Please tell us about yourself how you ventured into the modeling industry.

KF: I came to SL on November 2, 2007 and had been fascinated by SL fashion ever since I ventured out of help island. I spent my first week raiding freebie places and I was already mixing and matching what I found as well as do simple editing such as changing sleeve length to make the outfits look better. Since the original reason that I came here was through my RL job, it was part of my duty to find out what SL was all about and what potential lied in it for RL companies, I was doing a lot of reading about SL at that time while thinking with a marketing mind, what are the things I could do here. Then I read that there is actually a model indsutry in SL when I was reading through a guide book on SL and had already made up my mind to try it out myself.

So the first thing I did was search for model agencies. I didn’t even know there were academies so I thought I’ll start from visiting agencies to see what information I could gather. That’s when I accidentally ran into the CEO of the agency and was told that there was a school I could attend. And that was how I got started.

Q: Please tell us about some of your accomplishments within the modeling industry and describe what would be one of the most defining moments of your modeling career.

KF: My biggest accomplishement? hmmm….did I have any?

I’m not sure if this is an accomplishment as a model but if I can expand my interpretation to include the whole SL fashion industry in general, I feel I was able to shed light to some of the “hidden” Japanese talent and have brought Japan closer to the main fashion scene. This was not a “one way” phenomena too because while the general SL fashionistas turned to some Japanese creators, Japanese residents who had always been shy because of the language barrier started to take their first steps to venture out from thier small SL world. As they gained more confidence, they started to take more pro-active steps to promote themselves. Tukinowaguma is a very good example. At first, I had to talk to the creator a couple of times before she became convinced that she had a larger market than catering to the Japanese residents and a handful of non-Japanese. Now she has many fans in SL fashion and I feel honoured that she trusted my words. And now she even owns a sim for her main store. 😀

So maybe it’s not specifically an accomplishment as a model but I feel I have been an effective bridge between the two different cultures both for creators and more recently for Japanese models. (Two of my ex students are finalists in Miss VW now).

Q: You have certainly established yourself well within the modeling industry. Please tell us what you believe are the essential elements to being a successful model. Do you have any advice for aspiring models?

KF: There are a number of elements, I think, that is crucial to becoming a successful model. Anybody can be pretty in SL and everybody who is willing to spend some extra time fiddling with their avatar can become gorgeous. That means having a pretty avatar will be just a prerequisite and what comes AFTER that is the more important part. Specifically these would be:-

1. Unique look – you certainly don’t want 100 others looking like you.
2. Sense of styling – this is another thing that can make you stand out in a room full of pretty avatars. Unfortunately you either have it or you don’t, so although with training and close observation of what others are doing, you may improve by learning different ways to style but to be really good, you need to have the “eye” and this is something you can’t teach.
3. A high performance PC – unfortunately, the higher the spec of your computer, the better equipped you will be to handle modeling in lag. Being resistant to crash and lag will be an important element to gain the trust of others.
4. Spendable Lindens – again, unfortunately, to style well, you will need sufficient Lindens to be able to buy items you need in order to style without being constained to what might be available in your inventory. In a competitive environment, even this will make a difference.
5. Time – you don’t need to be in SL 24/7, but long enough to style, practice, participate in shows and shoots and shop around for interesting items.
6. Commitment – modeling in SL is VERY competitive especially because we can all be pretty and so many people want to have a try in becoming a model. Those without a strong commitment will not last.
7. Resistance to rejection – being a model, whether it’s RL or SL means you will be facing LOTS of rejections. Contests, castings….and any other occasion that requires selecting models will be rejecting more models that those selected in most cases. If you allow yourself to get devastated everytime this happens, you’ll end up being SL depressed. Unlike RL, nobody is forced to stay in SL which means we come here to have fun and to realize a dream that we can’t in RL. So why force yourself to be unhappy? You need the nerves to face rejections, swallow it, learn from it and move on. And more importantly not whine about it!
8. Personality – you can’t make it alone no matter how pretty and unique your look is. You need the support of fellow models, show organizers, designers, creators and whoever else that might be involved. If these people hated you, how can you get the support? A good personality is a LOT more important in SL than in RL since in RL, where you have no sliders to alter your looks, some popular models can get away with being a little less than ideal in personality. In SL, however, who wants to work with an unpleasant person?
9. Luck – in Japan, there is a saying. Good luck is part of a talent. Whether you agree or not, you certainly need an eye to see luck when it comes your way and a long enough arm to grab it before it goes past you.
10. PR/publicity capability – you don’t have to be in PR/publicity as a job. But becoming a successful model means building “your brand/brand image as a model”. And to do that effectively, you need to have a good sense of how to execute PR effectively for yourself. Again, you can learn from others but this is something that can’t be taught. You either have it or you don’t.
11. English capability – again, unfortunately the primary language in SL fashion is English and although you don’t have to be perfect, you need enough English language capability to understand what your client or photographer wants and be able to question it if you are not clear. Of course English will be necessary to enable basic communication during shows/shoots as well.

There may be others and I can almost hear voices saying “jeez……”. lol But remember, these are elements you might need to be a very successful model. You may not need all of the above just to model, but becoming one of the top requires you to weed through many obstacles and survive through a very tough competition. And in that environment, lack of any elements listed above becomes a big disadvantage against those who have them.

I have heard so many starter models say “but I think my avatar is gorgeous. Why am I not getting anywhere?” I particularly recommend those to read the above and think hard what you might be lacking. Of course, the reason can be elements you can’t see such as 6. Commitment or 9. Luck.

Also remember that you can still be a model without all of the above. For example, even if you didn’t speak a word of English, you can still model within your language groups.

OMG did I write all that? o.O
Q: What do you like and dislike about modeling?

KF: I like everything about modeling. I love simply walking in shows, styling looks, getting exposure for the designers, planning and producing shows, shopping, see happy designers when I was able to help thier sales, helping other models, helping starters, sharing store information (I never never never keep anywhere a secret)….simply every aspect of modeling is a joy for me.

I thought hard about what I may not like. And I still can’t find anything. So….none.

Q: Finally, please tell us what motivates you to be a model. Who inspires you the most and what is your inspiration?

KF: I think my answer to #4 answers this. Every aspect of being a model motivates me. I get inspiration from anything and everything I see. RL fashion, SL fashion, movies, magazines……even riding a train or subway as I watch what others are wearing and how they style themselves. Ah and I mustn’t forget….my mood of the day. How I am feeling that particular day will most likely inspire me to style in certain ways.

Q: Please feel free to share anything else you wish to add such as any additional comments etc.

KF: SL is a wonderful place to have fun and make your dream come true. And modeling, for those who like fashion, is certainly very fun. Although I listed many elements that a top successful model would need to make it to the top, that didn’t mean I have it all. It was just my objective observation. So if you are in for a challenge, dive in and you can still have lots of fun even if you are not perfect with all the elements. In fact, it’s rare to find somebody who has it all.

Parting Words From Kay: – Treat all avatars with kindness. There are real people behind avatars with feelings and emotions.

Lucky for you, KABUKI are accepting applications from highly skilled professional models.
Let’s ask KABUKI Creator blackLiquid Tokyoska what it takes to be a KABUKI MODEL.

Q: What attributes must a model possess in order to gain admission into your agency?

BT: Uniqueness! A strong sense of personal style, passion for the industry and focused drama free attitude. I’m looking for someone who is obviously well put together & switched on. Runway experience is very important. A person that has previous training at an academy, and someone with a good work ethic.

Q: There is a general perception amongst models that some agencies only hire those who have established a reputable name for themselves, whether it be with a top-tier agency or otherwise. Is this important to you? Model training aside, are you willing to take a chance on a model who is new to the industry?

BT: I am absolutely willing to take a chance on a model who is new to the industry! This is fashion, ever changing in constant flux, without new blood–it’s been done before. New models are as fundamental to it’s success in general as the highly experienced top models, the mix is what keeps things interesting.

Q:Is a potential candidate for your agency required to undertake training specifically with your model academy?

BT: We do not have a modeling academy nor do we have any plans for one, but if it was clear the model needed training, personally I would recommend AVENUE Academy.

blackLiquid Tokyoska

Thank YOU blackLiquid Tokyoska and KABUKI for letting us interview you and sharing to our readers what KABUKI is all about. =)

My entry for the Maniera Magazine November Cover Model contest. This was my first photo contest in SL and I was pleased to receive 3rd place. Credit goes to Jess Toland for capturing this masterpiece and to Augusta Carver for her contributions as fashion/design consultant.

People in our society all have the capacity for less than perfect behavior, and envy is certainly one manifestation of that behavior. We are often not satisfied with ourselves and how we look or feel, and long for something better, ENVYING the chance to improve ourselves. This photo is supposed to portray this jaded view. What we sometimes do not realize is that we all have something that defines us and makes us special, and that we should not forget that everyone is beautiful, both inside and outside.

Don’t look at me

Every day is so wonderful
Then suddenly, it’s hard to breathe
Now and then, I get insecure
From all the pain, I’m so ashamed

I am beautiful no matter what they say
Words can’t bring me down
I am beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can’t bring me down
So don’t you bring me down today

To all your friends, you’re delirious
So consumed in all your doom
Trying hard to fill the emptiness
The pieces gone, left the puzzle undone
Is that the way it is

You are beautiful no matter what they say
Words can’t bring you down
You are beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can’t bring you down
Don’t you bring me down today…

No matter what we do
(no matter what we do)
No matter what we say
(no matter what we say)
We’re the song inside the tune
Full of beautiful mistakes

And everywhere we go
(everywhere we go)
The sun will always shine
(sun will always shine)
And tomorrow we might wake on the other side
All the other times

We are beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can’t bring us down
We are beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can’t bring us down
Don’t you bring me down today

Don’t you bring me down today
Don’t you bring me down today

KAITLIN is a very new model in SL. Please give her some support and comments. =) TY

INFO: This picture is the WINNER of Maniera Magazine’s Cover Entry for November. EMOTION is the theme and Despair is what is depicted in this picture. Per BlackBarbie: Rain is just as important a fixture in our lives as a sunny day. I chose despair because many have felt that emotion at some point in their lives and could relate. In my opinion the key is not the despair but what you do next. In the photo I chose to move forward. Always forward.

Baby, Baby,
When We First Met
I Never Felt Something So Strong
You Were Like My Lover And My Best Friend
All Wrapped In One, With A Ribbon On It
And All Of A Sudden, When You Left
I Didn’t Know How To Follow
It Was Like The Shock Was Comin Around
And Now I’m Haunted
I Feel So Empty And Hollow

And I’ll Never Give Myself To Another The Way I Gave It To You
Don’t Even Recognize
It’s Going To Take A Miracle To Bring Me Back
And Your The On Blame, And Now I’m Feel Like

Your The Reason Why I’m Thinking
I Don’t Wanna Smoke On These Cigarette No More
I Guess That’s What I Get For Wishful Thinking
Should Of Never Let You Enter My Door
Next Time You Wanna Go On And Leave
I Should Just Let You Go And Do It
Cause Now I’m Using Like I Bleed

It’s Like I Checked Into Rehab
And Baby Your My Disease
It’s Like I Checked Into Rehab
And Baby Your My Disease
I Gotta Checked Into Rehab
Cause Baby Your My Disease
I Gotta Checked Into Rehab
Cause Baby Your My Disease

Damn, It Ain’t Crazy When Your Love’s Left
Your Doin Anything For The One You Love
Cause Anytime That You Needed Me
I’d Be There
It’s Like You Were My Favourite Drug
The Only Problem Is That You Was Using Me
In A Different Way That I Was Using You
But Now That I Know It’s Not Meant To Be
I Gotta Go, I Gotta Wean Myself Off Of You

And I’ll Never Give Myself To Another The Way I Gave It To You
Don’t Even Recognize
It’s Going To Take A Miracle To Bring Me Back
And Your The On Blame, Cause Now I Feel Like

Your The Reason Why I’m Thinking
I Don’t Wanna Smoke On These Cigarette No More

CEO – Ethan Haalan
Head Model – Lola Baudin
Runway Manager – Cate Honi
Location: Bagheera (166, 22, 38)

Let’s Ask CEO Ethan Haalan.

Q: What attributes must a model possess in order to gain admission into your agency?

EH: Attributes a model must possess in order to be in IMAGE models agency are: Well, they should have a good personality, a good understanding of how second life works, a passion for modeling, be Unique , something that makes them stand out, should be able to walk a runway. Those are the basis to what you would need if you were considering admission into IMAGE models agency.

Q: Is a potential candidate for your agency required to undertake training specifically with your model academy?

EH: No, any model/upcoming model looking into becoming an IMAGE model do not need to take any “COURSES” with the agency. It’s not required for the simple fact that it isn’t necessary if they already have training.

Q:There is a general perception amongst models that some agencies only hire those who have established a reputable name for themselves, whether it be with a top-tier agency or otherwise. Is this important to you? Model training aside, are you willing to take a chance on a model who is new to the industry?

EH: As far as who I accept into the agency, no – names, or titles don’t matter to me, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE absolutely LOVE a fresh face, I love to see someone new walking a runway, it literally makes me smile to know, WOW – look what you can do and know that they can possibly be one of SL’s next supermodels. As far as having training at all, you MUST have training, some sort of training, because not only for our sake, but for the models, you should know what you’re getting into, what the agency asks of you, what you would be capable of doing, and how you would go about it. But as I said before, if you are a model under the radar with training, and you can add some sort of fierce-ness to my runways then hey! welcome to IMAGE :).

THANK YOU SO MUCH, Ethan Haalan and IMAGE AGENCY for letting us interview you and for sharing with our readers what IMAGE AGENCY is all about.

ARE YOU FIERCE ENOUGH TO BE AN IMAGE MODEL? Please Tell Us What You Think And Leave A Comment. TY.

FASHION & MUSIC: ‘I Want You’ by Madonna featuring Massive Attack

MODEL: Mikey Batriani

FASHION: Vitamen Underwear

SONG: I Want You
ARTIST: Madonna featuring Massive Attack

I, yi yi yi (repeat 3 times)

I want you the right way
I want you, but I want you to want me too,
Want you to want me baby
Just like I want you

Da da, da da, da da da

I’ll give you all the love I want in return
But half a love is all I feel, sweet darling
It’s too bad, it’s just too sad
You don’t want me no more
But I’m gonna change your mind
Some way, somehow

Da da, da da, da da da

One way love is just a fantasy
To share is precious, pure and fair
Don’t play with something you should cherish for life
Oh baby, don’t you wanna care?
Ain’t it lonely out there?

I want you the right way
I want you, but I want you to want me too,
Want me baby, just like I want you.
Da da, da da, da da da

I want you, the right way
Want me baby
Don’t play with something you should cherish for life

GLANCE | International Agency

GIA is a full service Fashion Public Relations Agency based in Second Life™ offering fashion-related photography and graphic designs, style consulting, fashion shows coordination, fashion designers promotion, model academy and modeling career development. It is a highly respected and very successful agency spearheaded by CEO’s Patty Cortes and Morgane Nyle. GLANCE Model Academy with Academy DEAN Wicca Merlin and knowledegable instructors provide a one on one education structure that is tailored to the learning needs of the student. I myself am a recent graduate of GIA, and I enjoyed the very informative experience.

We asked CEO Patty Cortes, as most of you want to know, what it takes to be a GIA model.

Q: What attributes must a model possess in order to gain admission into your agency?

PC: In the past months, we did receive countless applications from models wanting to join our agency and although we are honored that so many people think of us to kick off or pursue their career, we had to stop accepting new models into the agency. The reasons are many.

First of all, we strive to bring a real amount of work to our model roster so they all can add more experiences to their resume. Secondly, we enjoy working close with a handful models which requires us to be regularly in touch with the same models. Indeed, they know how to carry the spirit, professionalism and general feel of GLANCE International Agency. They know how we work and it makes the usual preparation much faster and easier. Lastly, because after months in business we did raise our standards for those to be admitted among us and those high criterion are not met by just anybody. We are selective and getting your ticket into GLANCE International Agency means that you have been through numerous fashion shows, that you excel in the field of runway walk and that you have a real personality. Many people forget that in SL everybody can be beautiful, that is how you interact with the others and the impressions you leave on people that will make you stand out from the crowd. All the models who are accepted in our exclusive pool are meeting excellence standards set by the agency.

Q: Is a potential candidate for your agency required to undertake training specifically with your model academy?
PC: Potential candidates are absolutely not required to undertake training specifically with our model academy and if you ever get told that you must pay an affiliated academy to join an agency, just run away! This would be a total scam. We recruit new models regardless of where they have been trained, our criterions are based on much different standards. As I always say to people approaching me on this matter, GLANCE Model Academy and GLANCE International Agency are two different concepts. The first teaches you, during one-to-one classes, the tips and tricks of the industry. You do pay to learn everything from the etiquette to the techniques (how to walk the catwalk) and to make sure that once you graduate you can get a job anywhere. We do even have a post-graduate group where we share information on on-going casting calls and pageants to maximize the success of our graduates’ career. The second, GLANCE International Agency is reserved to those who meet our standards as explained above and graduating from us does not necessarily gives you all the qualities we are looking for in an applicant. While we have, on the record, people who did totally amaze us during their graduation show, who did a successful interview to join us and who are now pursuing and getting high position within our agency, we do also have people who were not accepted and got asked to apply at a later date because they did not impress us and did not take their training seriously.

Q:There is a general perception amongst models that some agencies only hire those who have established a reputable name for themselves, whether it be with a top-tier agency or otherwise. Is this important to you? Model training aside, are you willing to take a chance on a model who is new to the industry?

PC: We do not go by invitation because we believe someone should join a reputable agency based on his hard work and presentation, not thanks to his network. Anyone who meet our standards can join our agency even today! We are willing to enroll fresh faces because at GLANCE International Agency, we believe being a newcomer is not necessarily something bad. Just like the famous saying, you only have one chance to make the first impression. Make sure to give a memorable one!

WE thank Glance International Agency and Patty Cortes for letting us interview her and offer insight into GIA.

Please kindly LEAVE a COMMENT about GLANCE. TYSM.

FASHION & MUSIC: “Dreaming with a Broken Heart” by John Mayer

Rico - Brokenhearted

MODEL: RicoRacer Flux
PHOTOGRAPHER: Mikey Batriani
FASHION: Skin: Belezza
I wanted a very simple picture…NO fancy clothes. NO Jewelry. NO dramatic lighting. Just a picture showing RAW Emotion. I’ve always loved John Mayer’s Song…Dreaming With a Broken Heart and I wanted to capture it on a picture. As always, Mikey captured my idea brilliantly. I really love this picture and I hope you do too. =) TY

LYRICS: Dreaming with a Broken Heart

When you’re dreaming with a broken heart,
The waking up is the hardest part.
You roll out of bed and down on your knees,
and for a moment you can hardly breathe.
Wondering was she really here
Is she standing in my room?

No, she’s not…
cause she’s gone, gone, gone, gone, gone.

When you’re dreaming with a broken heart,
The giving up is the hardest part.
She takes you in with her crying eyes
then all at once you have to say goodbye.
Wondering could you stay my love?
Will you wake up by my side?

No, she can’t…
cause she’s gone, gone, gone, gone, gone.

Do I have to fall asleep with roses in my hand?
Do I have to fall asleep with roses in my hand?
Do I have to fall asleep with roses in my hand?
Do I have to fall asleep with roses in my, roses in my hands?
Would you get them if I did?

No, you won’t…
Cause you’re gone, gone, gone, gone, gone.

When you’re dreaming with a broken heart
the waking up is the hardest part.
